“A pioneering program for Greece, namely the archery courses for the blind at the Lighthouse of Blind which started in May 2022, was completed in the summer.The Archery classes were held with great success and the participation of a large group of visually impaired women and men who got to know Archery, the technique and skills of the sport, the cooperation required between our body and mind and above all the power of soul and the will that all people need to achieve their goals.The training sessions were even held every Tuesday evening in the garden of Lighthouse of Blind, with coaches of Sports Club Kareas Board member and Technical Delegate of the European Archery Federation Maria Kyrillopoulos and Sports Club Kareas athlete, Athens College High School student and Greek champion Dimitris Anastasopoulos, who had the idea and took the initiative to set up for the first time in Greece an organized archery department for the blind.For the creation of the archery department for the blind in Greece, the athlete Dimitris Anastasopoulos was awarded by the Karea Sports Club, the Ethical and Social Contribution Award of the year 2022. The award was made during the closing ceremony of the sports activities of the Sports Club Kareas for the sports year 2021 – 2022 with the presence of all sports departments and their athletes.The second phase of the program will begin in October at Lighthouse of Blind, which embraced this effort from the first moment and consistently. The constant goal remains the highlighting of will and technique as factors that not only overturn every human fear, hesitation or inhibition, but also create athletes and people with enormous skills and strengths that we all in our society are in great need of.”
