“On the weekend of May 14 and 15, Archery Competitions of all competition categories, developmental categories and young ages were held with great success in the Municipality of Byron, with the participation of more than 370 athletes and 40 sports clubs from all over Greece!The sports organization was undertaken by the Sports Club of KAREA and the success of the games was marked by the large participation, the perfection of the organization, the originality of the composition of the games with adults and minor athletes, but also younger children. However, their uniqueness was marked by the presentation of a new pioneering initiative and action for Greek sports: Archery for visually impaired people.KAREA athlete Dimitris Anastasopoulos, a student of the 1st high school at Psychiko College and Panhellenic athlete in 1st place in the Olympic bow in 2021, had the idea, took the initiative and the organization and, together with the sports club of Karea and the Lighthouse of Blind in Greece, the first systematic Archery organization for the blind is being launched today in our country.Archery is a spiritual sport that does not discriminate, does not require special physical qualifications, it appeals to every gender, age and everybody. It is a sport that can be played by people with disabilities, which with basic guidance has no injuries, is a safe sport and is aimed at the general public. In other words it is a sport for everyone.This initiative included finding the necessary technical equipment from abroad, as well as the sponsors who will help in this project.Lighthouse of Blind in Greece and its members, to whom a special presentation was made days before the project, embraced this initiative with love and enthusiasm and the first trainings are already planned to begin in June and July.At the announcement of the pioneer for our country in sports action that took place on Saturday, May 14th at the Municipal Stadium of Byron, the athlete and Panhellenic champion Mr. Christos Koromilas was present as a representative and member of the Board of Directors of the Lighthouse of Blind. During the games, visually impaired participants also shot their first arrows. Mr. Koromilas, in the presence of the representative of the Deputy Ministry of Sports, Mr. Kostis Liakopoulos, was awarded by Sports Club Karea for his contribution and his belief in the will of all those people who struggle and who set goals, testing their strength.Forces that may lead to new sports and social activities for the visually impaired as well as sports competitions.It is an initiative that penetrates and conquers all of us with the message of strength and faith, so that we can all claim and above all achieve our goals!”Sources:
